Polypropylene bags: types, features, applications
- 19.11.2022
Polypropylene bags can be seen everywhere: in food warehouses, in construction stores, in them carry vegetables and collect garbage. These products are lightweight and durable. Polypropylene bags do not tear from punctures or contact with scratching objects, such as sharp edges of construction waste.
To make a durable fabric, polypropylene pellets are made into a film on an extruder. This is cut into filaments, which are then woven into sleeves on looms. The blanks are cut on looms and sewn.
The peculiarity of the fabric of polypropylene bags:
- high strength;
- it withstands dampness;
- remains strong at a wide range of temperatures;
- the material does not emit any chemicals;
- withstands a large weight of loose contents;
- not susceptible to shocks during unloading and loading;
- the material is flexible, polypropylene bags are easy to tie without losing their strength;
- polypropylene bags with contents can be stacked one on top of the other without the use of shelves or racks.
Types of polypropylene bags
Polypropylene bags are distinguished by the characteristics of capacity:
- food - the fibers are white, opaque, can withstand the weight of 25-50 kg;
- for garbage - high density of fibers, resistance of fabric to abrasion, can withstand the weight up to 40 kg.
Polypropylene bags can be laminated for increased durability and insulation. Simply woven polypropylene bags are also available. Sometimes a polyethylene liner is added to them to further protect the products from dampness.
By design, polypropylene bags can be:
- with open side folds and top;
- with open top;
- Footed - a narrow neck remains in the corner of the package. In it the product is poured during automatic bagging;
- with cords on the neck for tightening and sealing the bag;
- with valves for packaging loose building materials;
- with folds and flaps;
- with handles - for small packages up to 25 kg.
Big-bags are a special category of polypropylene bags of large dimensions. They can hold heavy loads up to 3 tons. They are equipped with handles or loops for attaching a load-lifting device to the bag. Big bags are reusable. It is allowed to store products in such soft containers in the open air.
Polypropylene bags differ in color. White ones are intended for products, construction materials. Green ones are for garbage. They are usually sent for recycling after use. Gray sacks are made of recyclable materials.
Application
Polypropylene bags are used in such areas:
- food industry - packaging of flour, cereals, sugar and other products;
- Farming - for storage of animal feed, vegetables, grain, etc;
- For construction waste - large size, can withstand heavy loads, dense - do not let dust through;
- Bags for different weight, including small (3-5 kg), which is convenient for packing in wholesale and retail warehouses and stores.
It is not recommended to store polypropylene bags in direct sunlight so that UV light does not destroy the material. The temperature range is from -20 to +40 degrees. At high humidity, the material can not fully insulate the contents. In such conditions, a polyethylene liner or laminated bags should be used.
