Apple AirPods Pro headphones: review and features, what is the reason for their popularity?
- 23.12.2022
Apple AirPods Pro are called almost perfect headphones. What are they perfect and what are they not? If you compare by any one parameter, you will find the headphones, which sound a little better, some longer battery life and more noise cancelling settings. The AirPods Pro headphones are perfect for their combination of strengths and a couple of useful options, which we'll talk about next.
AirPods Pro's biggest selling point
AirPods Pro has very good noise cancellation in the headphones. A special thanks for this feature. The system itself is not new - the processor processes the ambient noise that the microphone picks up into a sound wave and creates the sound back to it. It adjusts it to the specifics of the speaker and reproduces two waves simultaneously, which as «plus» and «minus» add up to «zero». The human brain perceives this combination of waves almost as silence. And this is how noise in headphones is eliminated:
- Not only is the level of extraneous noise outside, but also inside the ear is measured. This creates a more accurate return wave, which improves the quality of noise cancellation.
- AirPods Pro checks the noise level, positioning the headphones 200 times per second and correcting the sound after each measurement.
- The sound is processed by a 10-core processor, which gives an instantaneous creation of a feedback sound wave after noise is detected.
How noise cancellation works in different conditions:
- Going down the subway, you don't have to turn up the volume. Even if an old, rumbling car passes by, music and vocals will be well heard.
- In a quiet room, you can't hear all the extraneous noises at all.
- People's conversations and TV sounds will be barely audible, only if you pause the music playing. And when it is playing, these noises do not interfere at all.
If you insert one earphone, the noise suppression function is turned off, and ambient sounds become slightly audible. This is specially designed for comfort. When one ear is in a vacuum and the other hears everything around, it is unpleasant and can even make you dizzy.
Useful option
Transparency mode in the headphones lets all sounds from the outside in when the music is on or paused. The headphones are able to reduce the pressure level inside the ear canal, and it feels like they are gone. And when you turn off Transparency mode, it's like the headphones reappear in your ears. You're right back in the silence of your music.
The sound of AirPods Pro
The emphasis is on a pleasant mid-bass, the middle frequencies sound good and without unpleasant vibrations. High frequencies in some tracks are strange, as if at first slightly exaggerated, and then fade out. But this is not critical. The AirPods Pro headphones play all genres of music perfectly.
AirPods Pro controls are their not perfect
Rewind tracks and other options are not performed by tapping, but by the force of pressure, which captures a special sensor. You have to press the button until it clicks. Such combinations of presses are programmed:
- Double tap to skip a track.
- Press 3 times to go back to the previous track.
- Press once to start or stop a track.
- Delay button pressure - turn noise reduction on or off.
Users note that pressure control is less convenient than tapping. The sensors, although highlighted by small bumps, are located near the ear. It's not convenient to fumble with them. I wish the developers had installed a tap system on the AirPods Pro like they do on their other models of headphones. Why did they change that? However, it's the little things - someone won't feel the inconvenience.
The AirPods Pro are a total upgrade on the previous AirPods. They are destined to be a hit. They have perhaps the best noise cancellation among other wireless headphones, sound quality, and a comfortable fit in the ear.
