Rolled aluminum: what is it, types, applications
- 29.11.2022
What do road signs, blinds and bulb bases have in common? They have components made of rolled aluminum products. Such products are in demand in almost all areas of production and construction from household items to the construction of large engineering facilities.
What is rolled aluminum?
These are products of various shapes and sizes of the metal alloy, which is called aluminum. Several types of processing techniques are used for this material: warm, cold or warm rolling through a rolling mill. Hence the name aluminum rolling.
Types of rolled aluminum:
- Sheet. Aluminum sheet is the most common product, which is used in machinery, aircraft construction, machinery production and construction of buildings. The thickness of plates can reach 6 mm or more, thin sheets - from 0.2 mm.
- Round is a smooth, square or hexagonal bar. It is used in construction and other industries. Round corrugated rolled products are reinforcing bars. This includes round ingots, ingots, rods, circles, etc.
- Tubes - for road construction and various industries, energy. Aluminum tubes are round, triangular, smooth or corrugated, of different diameters.
- Rolls are rolled-up sheets of aluminum, connected in no more than two places. They are used in the food industry and in metal processing plants.
- Wire - Used as widely as aluminum sheets.
- Aluminum foil - industrial for insulation or domestic, which is used to bake foods.
Rolled profile - making products from aluminum of different shapes, sizes and textures. It is used in various areas of construction, production of equipment, in the manufacture of spare parts for cars and other machinery.
Properties of rolled aluminum products:
- Have high strength and low weight;
- resistant to corrosion and fire;
- withstand temperature fluctuations;
- suitable for recycling;
- easy to mold;
- conduct electricity.
Rolled aluminum products undergo various tests. This can be sawing and other mechanical processing, which helps determine the strength of the material, temperature effects, etc.
Application of rolled aluminum
Rolled aluminum products are used in such areas:
- Manufacturing of furniture - aluminum profile strengthens the frame.
- Machine building - cladding the sides of cars, ships, aircraft, etc.
- Chemical industry - aluminum materials in tanks, vessels, equipment.
- Oil production - pipelines, tanks.
- Food industry - foil, equipment, containers.
- Construction - bridges, TV towers, cell phone towers etc.
Aluminum has virtually no magnetism, which is why parts made of it are used in radioelectronics. Rolled aluminum products can be alloyed with elements of copper, iron, tungsten. They can be alloyed to make them more heat-resistant, stronger and resistant to corrosion.
