Clinker brick: what it is, types, application
- 17.08.2023
Clinker brick is called an unsurpassed building material. It is environmentally safe and suitable for both exterior and interior decoration of houses and other structures. Due to the special properties of clinker bricks, they are used in various areas of construction, where strength of materials is required.
What is a clinker brick
Clinker bricks contain only refractory clay and sand. There are no toxic additives and artificial colors. Bricks are fired at a temperature of 1200-1300 degrees. In the process, different amounts of oxygen are added, and so create shades from red and orange to black. Clinker bricks are so durable that they can last up to 100 years. Environmental friendliness, durability - this is not all the advantages of this material. Useful characteristics of clinker brick:
- The material can withstand a pressure of 400 kg per square centimeter.
- Water absorption is low, up to 5%.
- High resistance to frost and high temperatures.
- Good sound insulation.
- Safe for health and the environment.
Unlike other types of bricks, clinker brick is not covered with a white scale of salts and sulfates, which spoils the appearance of the building. When firing these substances do not remain in the material.
The disadvantages of clinker bricks are three. High thermal conductivity leads to cooling of walls, foundations. To minimize this process for exterior work use hollow bricks and insulate the structure.
High cost and the need to use a special mortar are other disadvantages of clinker bricks. However, as far as operational properties are concerned, this material is considered ideal. The high cost is offset by the durability of clinker bricks. It is possible to find experts in laying this material or learn how to do it.
Types of clinker brick
Depending on the purpose, such types of clinker bricks are made:
- Building clinker brick is used for the erection of supporting structures of buildings. It has increased strength.
- Facing material is used for finishing facades and premises. It does not burn out in the sun, does not crack from frost.
- Paving stones or bricks for paving roads. On the front side you can get different textures and colors, which increases the decorativeness of the material.
- Full-body clinker bricks for masonry walls of factory floors in industries with toxic fumes.
- Acid-resistant bricks are used where there is a high acid content in the environment.
Application of clinker bricks
In what areas of construction use clinker brick:
- Construction and finishing of buildings.
- Manufacturing of paving stones, paving slabs.
- Finishing of factory premises where aggressive chemicals are used.
- Erection of hydraulic structures.
- Landscape design.
Clinker brick is not just a durable material. Buildings and paths with such cladding look noble and natural. This is an excellent design solution. A wide range of colors makes it possible to use clinker bricks in different styles of design of buildings and adjacent territory.
