Electric heating boiler: types and features, how to choose

22.03.2023

Electric heating boiler works on the same principle as other electric devices for heating: a kettle or a boiler. After turning on the device in the network, the heating element increases the temperature of the coolant, which circulates through the heating system. Electric boilers differ in design, capacity and additional equipment.

Types and features of electric heating boilers

The heating system of an electric heating boiler comes in three types:

  • TENS;
  • induction;
  • electrode.

Most often in heating boilers are installed TENs - tubular electric heaters. They convert electrical energy into thermal energy and transfer it to the coolant - water or antifreeze. Boilers with heating elements have a stepped control system, which allows you to save electricity.

Minus equipment, in which the coolant is water, - is the scale. It is formed on the heating element, which reduces the thermal efficiency and the heating element can break. To avoid this, distilled water or liquids with a special composition are used in the heating system. If necessary, the heating element can be easily replaced.

In induction boilers, the coolant is heated by an electromagnetic field, which is formed in a special element. If water is used in the system, no scale is formed. Such equipment weighs more and costs more than TEEN designs.

In electrode heating boilers there is no heating element. Current passes through the coolant and heats it. They have a low cost, electricity consumption is half as high as other models. The peculiarity is that they use a special liquid or prepared water.

Electric boilers differ in the number of circuits:

  • Single-circuit electric heating boilers work only for heating the house or apartment. For hot water supply, you will have to additionally install a boiler.
  • Two-circuit electric heating boilers are equipped with an additional system for heating water, which is fed to the tap in the bathroom and kitchen. The disadvantage is the high power consumption.

How to choose an electric heating boiler

An important characteristic of an electric boiler - power. It is chosen according to the area of the apartment or house at the rate of 1 kW per 10 square meters. If the apartment is 60 square meters, the power of an electric boiler should be at least 6 kW. It is better to choose equipment with a small power reserve.

It is important to take into account that such a calculation is suitable for rooms with high-quality doors and plastic windows that do not allow drafts. If these conditions are not met, you need to install an electric boiler more powerful by 30% than the standard calculation.

Other parameters of electric boilers, which pay attention to:

  • Type of installation - on the floor or on the wall. Powerful floor equipment is more bulky. Wall-mounted models are less powerful, but compact, taking up less space.
  • For use in the home are boilers for 220 V electrical network, If you need to heat a room of more than 150 square meters, choose electric boilers, rated for 380 V network.
  • Additional equipment - pressure and temperature sensors allow more fine-tuning and increase safety. If the pressure in the system is exceeded, the equipment will shut down.

To make the electric boiler work stably, choose equipment from reliable manufacturers. They use quality parts and give a guarantee.
