Most people are familiar with the sharp sound of a perforator drill, when the neighbors do repairs. Without it, you can not do without it, when replacing windows, rebuilding internal partitions, installing suspended structures or shelves. Drill hammer drill resembles a drill, only it has a larger size and diameter of drill bits. It makes holes in concrete, masonry and stone surfaces.
What is a hammer drill
It is a drilling tool with an impact mechanism. It works in these modes:
- Non-impact drilling is used in the processing of tile, metal, plastic, wood. Suitable for fragile materials that can crack.
- Impact drilling is used for drilling concrete, masonry and stone. The action of the drill is enhanced by percussive movements and quickly produce holes in dense and hard materials.
- In chiseling mode, they create grooves in concrete walls, recesses in hard surfaces and dismantle partitions, etc.
Drill perforators are divided into three classes depending on weight and power:
- Light - up to 4 kg, power from 400 to 800 watts. Such a device penetrate in concrete holes under dowels, raspayachnye boxes, podrosetniki. They are used when fixing the profile for walls of drywall, install plumbing, laying communications, electrical wiring. In percussion mode, a light drill chisels tiles or removes frozen glue.
- Medium - weight up to 8 kg, power not more than 1 000 W. They are used during major repairs, decoration, installation of windows and doors. Average weight drills punch holes for pipes, removes old floor coverings.
- Heavy - weight over 8 kg, power up to 2,000 watts. They are used for drilling stone, dismantling concrete structures during the repair, when creating openings in the walls. Such devices are rarely purchased for home use, if only the construction of the house is carried out independently.
Types of Drill perforator by power supply:
- Electric - working from the mains and can operate for a long time.
- Cordless - with a battery that is recharged from the mains. They have a limited power reserve. Cordless drills are used in the country house, on the street and where there is no possibility to connect the device to an electrical outlet.
How to choose a hammer drill
What to pay attention to, choosing a perforator drill:
- Power. For work in a residential house, the power of 500-700 W is enough.
- The impact energy depends not only on the power of the percussion mechanism, but also on the weight of the device and the force of the pressure. The index ranges from 1 to 20 kJ. What impact energy is required depends on the material to be worked with. High energy perforator drill is needed for processing concrete and stone, low energy - for tiles, removal of a thin layer of tile glue.
- The impact frequency of the drill bit should be from 0 to 5,000. This means how many movements the drill bit makes per minute. To get through thick walls faster, you need a high impact frequency.
- The spindle frequency of the drill bit affects the quality of the drilling. If the perforator will be used as a drill, the rate up to 2,000 rpm will be suitable, for drilling more than 1,000 rpm is not necessary.
- How many modes a perforator drill has: drilling, drilling with impact or impact. If you have to penetrate hard materials, the impact mode is necessary.
- The diameter of the drilling. If you need to drill a wall under the pipes, then you will need a machine that can make a deep and wide groove in the concrete.
For simple home repair tasks, the universal models of drills with a removable base - the front part of the apparatus will be suitable. One base has a chuck for interchangeable drills, the other - drills. Such a tool can be used both as a drill and as a perforator.
