There are several varieties of fishing reels. They are chosen according to the type of fishing rod and method of fishing.

Types of fishing reels

Inertial reels are equipped with a friction brake. Some models have a back brake. Thanks to this, the line does not reel off the reel, but can only be reeled in. This is a useful function when hooking fish in the current. Inertial reels are suitable for fishing in rivers, because they release the line at the speed of water movement. Due to this, the bait moves naturally.

Inertial multiplier reels are located in the upper part of the rod, so they are not compatible with every rod model. They are special in that the number of spool revolutions per turn of the handle ranges from 3 to 7. It is important to set the reel properly, especially the brake. It should work when the bait hits the water. Then the line will not form loops. Such reels are suitable for saltwater fishing. They can be used when fishing on the lake.

Non-inertial spools are purchased on spinning rods most often. When the line descends when casting, the bobbin does not spin. Loops are rarely formed. Unsprung reels are compatible with lightweight baits. Friction brake prevents line breakage. It is important to choose the correct diameter of line to the bobbin. How to choose a fishing reel

• Multiplier reels are chosen for catching large strong fish. Inertial reels are used when fishing by fly fishing. For spinning and float fishing choose wineless reels.
• If you are fishing for big fish, suitable winchless reel with a low gear ratio. Then the bait moves more smoothly. Reels with high ratios are suitable for fishing on the float.
• It is better to choose a more reliable reel with bearings. The optimal number of them - 4-7 pcs.
• The functionality of the friction brake varies depending on the type of control. If you control the brake yourself, it is more convenient when it is of the rear type. If it is automatic, the friction brake of the front type is suitable.
• The system against line twisting reduces its entanglement.
• Metal reels are more reliable, but they are heavy, suitable for fishing at long distances. They are used in conjunction with a light rod.
• If you need to make long throws, choose a reel with an extended bobbin.

It is convenient when the fishing reel kit has a spare bobbin. You can wind the fishing line separately for different types of fishing and replace them if necessary. It's good if you can rearrange the handle for the right or left hand. This way you can choose the optimal position of the reel handle on the rod.
