Rubber hoses: types, features, application

09.09.2023

Rubber hose is a flexible tube, reinforced with a network of synthetic threads or wires made of metal. It is designed to transport gas, liquids, bulk substances under pressure. The main differences of rubber hoses in the type of reinforcement, in the number of reinforcing layers.

Features of rubber hoses

Flexible rubber hose consists of such layers:

  • An inner rubber layer that provides insulation. It has a high resistance to aggressive substances.
  • Intermediate frame made of metal mesh or synthetic threads.
  • Outer rubber layer of high strength. The material is resistant to wear and tear, does not deteriorate from dampness and temperature fluctuations.

Some reinforced hoses are equipped with an additional thermal layer. It is necessary to strengthen the design of the pipe, protect its inner layers.

At the ends of the rubber hose are installed fittings - elements that connect it to units, installations, equipment, a source of water, gas or other substance. Thanks to this, the pipeline is securely fixed. However, thanks to the properties of rubber and reinforcing layer, the hose remains flexible.

Rubber piping is suitable for use at temperatures ranging from -50 to + 100°C. It can be in difficult conditions of high humidity, chemical vapors.

Types of rubber hoses

In braided rubber hoses, a wire or thread braids the layer of the base material. Such hoses are used to transport technical liquids, the temperature of which is not more than 101 ° C, mineral oils with a temperature of not more than plus 75 ° C, water emulsion compositions. There are also hoses with coiled wire or thread.

If the braid is applied in one layer, the hose can withstand pressure up to 160 atm. The double frame is designed for pressures up to 200 atm. Hose with a braid, consisting of three layers, is suitable for transportation of substances under pressure of no more than 330 atm.

Application of rubber hoses

Rubber pipelines are used in such spheres:

  • In mechanical engineering, they are used as part of the fuel or oil supply system.
  • In industry through the hoses deliver various substances. They are also used in the device of machine tools and other aggregates.
  • Rubber hoses are part of sewerage, water supply or ventilation systems.
  • Oil products, gases and other aggressive substances are delivered through the hoses.
  • Rubber pipes are used in various agricultural installations and aggregates designed for irrigation, fertilizer delivery, manure removal and other tasks.
  • Hoses are installed in household appliances, washing machines, dishwashers, air conditioners.
  • In the food industry through the hoses fed to the production of various substances and raw materials.

Hoses that are used in the food industry are made of non-toxic rubber. It does not release harmful substances into the environment that passes through the pipe. Although new rubber hoses can have a slight odor, if the material is of high quality, it soon wears off. If the conditions of use of such products are observed, they serve for a long time.
