What roses to choose for cuttings and planting
Roses are quite sensitive plants. Not all their varieties are easy to grow from cuttings. Choosing a rose for rooting, pay attention to such factors:
- Summer varieties of roses are much more hardy than winter types.
- Local varieties of roses first begin to bloom earlier than imported species.
- Roses cut between May and June are easier and quicker to root.
- Cuttings from a plant that has not been treated with chemicals should be chosen for rooting.
Roses brought from another country are more difficult to cut for planting. Local varieties are much easier to root.
Preparation of cuttings
Stems with these characteristics are suitable for rooting:
- the shoot should be green, dense;
- Do not use the stem, where there is mold and traces of rotting;
- The shoot should be at the initial stage of hardening, elastic.
In order to cut the stem, use secateurs or a very sharp knife. It is treated with boiling water for disinfection. The cut should be even, not broken. On the stem find the place where three buds are formed. From the upper bud, 2 cm are set back from the upper bud and make a cut. He lower bud descend 1 cm and cut. The lower stem with leaves is completely removed. Leaves on the cuttings are removed halfway to reduce evaporation of moisture.
If the bouquet of flowers has stood for some time, the cuttings need preparation for rooting. The dried stem is trimmed so that the cuts are juicy and green. The cuttings are placed in cold water for two hours. Then its long side is planted in the ground in a flower pot. The container is washed in advance with boiling water or soap solution and cleaned with clean water. If the cuttings are from a freshly cut flower, it can be rooted immediately without soaking.
Stimulation of the growth of the cuttings
In flower stores you can buy a rooting and growth stimulator. These are nutritious synthetic solutions. Fertilizer for cuttings can also be prepared at home from natural components. In a liter of water, you can dissolve a teaspoon of honey. You can combine honey and aloe juice in a ratio of 1:10. This solution is watered cuttings.
Care for the planted cuttings
To create a suitable microclimate for the plant, the cuttings in the pot are covered with a glass jar or film. It is necessary to put the insulation so that there is still access to air. Then the plant receives enough oxygen and other elements and is protected from drying out. When the first cuttings appear, the jar or film is removed.
If it is necessary to transfer the planted cuttings to a place with a different climate, it is first adapted. The first time it is put in a new room or outside for 2-3 hours. Then daily increase the duration of its stay there. This is done for about a week.
