Vacuum cleaners for home: types and features, how to choose

27.08.2023

Vacuum cleaners for the home differ in design, energy consumption and power. Non-standard devices with additional functions are created. Modern models qualitatively clean surfaces. Let's consider the types of vacuum cleaners, the main features of their elements and advice on choice.

Types of vacuum cleaners for the house

Differences in the design and functionality of vacuum cleaners:

  • Classic vacuum cleaners consist of a body, a corrugated hose and a pipe. Inside, a dust collector and filters are installed. The units differ in suction power and dust collector design. Such vacuum cleaners are suitable for everyday and general cleaning.
  • Vertical vacuum cleaners in appearance resemble a mop. They are very compact. The motor and dust collector are built into the handle. They have a small capacity, the power is lower than that of classic vacuum cleaners. They are used for cleaning small rooms.
  • Washing vacuum cleaners outwardly resemble the classic models. Their peculiarity is in the increased size of the body. Inside there is a container for clean and dirty water. Such vacuum cleaners carry out general cleaning, clean carpets, upholstered furniture.
  • Robot vacuum cleaners that move independently. They can be programmed, set a timer, with the help of an application to build cleaning routes.

Features of vacuum cleaners

Types of vacuum cleaners:

  • Fabric dustbags are used less often, because the material lets some of the dust pass through and it returns to the room. It is inconvenient to clean such a dust collector. There are disposable bags, however, this believes the constant expense.
  • Containers or cups are the most popular type of dust collectors. Dust is collected in a plastic container. It is removable and can be washed.
  • Aquafilters in vacuum cleaners are containers filled with water. Vacuum cleaners with such a dust collector effectively clean the room from dust and moisturize the air. However, the aquafilter container should be washed and dried every time after using the vacuum cleaner.

Filters in vacuum cleaners also differ in design. Foam and felt pads are worse at holding dust and debris. The most effective filters are fine filters. They are made of a special material, folded with an accordion.

How to choose a vacuum cleaner

Pay attention to such criteria:

  • Suction power - this is an indicator of the strength of dust extraction, it is indicated in the instructions. For cleaning laminate and parquet use a suction power of 110 watts. For carpeting, a pull of 300-450 watts is required, and for upholstered furniture - 450 watts. Robot vacuum cleaners have a much lower power, 30-40 watts. This is enough, since the debris quickly falls into the dust collector, not passing through the hose.
  • Power consumption capacity is usually indicated on the body of the vacuum cleaner. On average, this indicator is from 1400 to 2000 watts.
  • The volume of the dust collector is on average from 0.2 to 1.5 liters. If you have to vacuum an apartment with several rooms, you will need a large container. Washing vacuum cleaners are equipped with a dust collector capacity from 1 to 6 liters.
  • The noise level up to 60 dB is considered quiet, the average level is 70-85 dB. Loud vacuum cleaners emit sounds over 90 dB. If the vacuum cleaner is to be used for a long time, it is desirable to choose a device with a noise level of no more than 80 dB.

The design of the pipe affects the convenience of using the equipment. Telescopic and collapsible pipes are the most convenient, since you can adjust their length. The working length of the vacuum cleaner cord is chosen according to the volume of the room. If it is a small room, 3-4 meters is enough. Models with a cord up to 12 m are available.
