Nanoceramics for cars: what it is, features, pros and cons

05.08.2023

The paintwork of the car body can be scratched from blows of sand, branches, small stones. To protect the surface, use special durable coatings, among which are nanoceramics. It is not the most impact-resistant, but it gives the car a special glossy shine. Thanks to it even the simplest car model attracts attention, the surface looks luxurious.

What is nanoceramics

In the composition of nanoceramics are the following components:

  • Polymer to create a protective film that does not deteriorate from the environment.
  • Sand made of quartz. It provides reliable adhesion to the paintwork of the body.
  • Silicon solvent is necessary to create a uniform layer on the surface of the machine. It fixes the composition.
  • Aluminum hydroxide gives water repellent and fireproof properties.
  • Titanium oxide smooths the surface, gives gloss.
  • Surface-active substances increase the resistance of the coating to high temperatures, prevent the penetration of dirt.

These substances in combination create a very durable insulating coating. It not only has high protective properties, but also makes the car more attractive in appearance.

The main indicators by which the nanoceramic coating is chosen are hardness and water repellency. The hardness of the standard factory varnish is 4 H, so the nano-ceramic should be higher, maximum - 9 H.

Pros and cons of nanoceramics

Any coating for the car has features, advantages and disadvantages. They should be taken into account when choosing what to use for body insulation.

Pros of nanoceramics for cars:

  • The surface of the bodywork becomes shiny, glossy. Colors look more saturated. Nanoceramics refreshes the appearance of the car. Such a coating will help to sell the car more expensive.
  • The surface repels dirt, dust practically does not settle.
  • The body paint is isolated from UV rays.
  • Nanoceramics protects against scratches from grains of sand. Of course, from the impact of a large stone at high speed may not protect.
  • The body is easy to wash.
  • Protection from corrosion.

Minuses of nanoceramics for cars:

  • Complicated procedure of covering the bodywork with nanoceramics. It will be necessary to degrease and polish the surface. Nanoceramics is applied in several layers - from 3 to 10. Each layer dries for about 15 hours.
  • The coating lasts from a year to 2-3 years.
  • Over time, nanoceramics may become slightly cloudy.
  • The strength reserve of the coating is low, there will be no protection against chipping.
  • To remove the old layer of nanoceramics, you need polishing, which is performed by specialists.

Additional complications are that nanoceramics require special care. The coating hardens for three weeks. During this period, you can not wash the car. To clean the body, standard methods are not suitable. Special care products are required. It is desirable to wash the body with a non-contact method or use a three-phase wash. It is not allowed to polish the coating. This can violate its integrity.

You can apply nanoceramics to the anti-gravel film for additional protection and to create a glossy shine. The coating will then insulate the body from the impact of small stones and sand. Anti-gravel film is easier to remove from the bodywork than nanoceramics. This minimizes the risk of damage to the bodywork when replacing the coating.
