Paint booth for cars: what it is, types, how it works
- 27.08.2023
To paint the paint coating of a passenger car turned out to be of the highest quality, paint booths for cars are used. They are arranged so as to provide quality ventilation, uniform and fast drying, and safety for the person who conducts the coloring of the car. Let's take a look at how car paint booths are arranged and how they work.
What is an auto paint booth
A special box, designed for painting cars, consists of such elements:
- The body of the chamber, which forms the walls, ceiling and creates a sealed room.
- Heat generator that heats the air.
- Ventilation and exhaust system, filters.
- Exhaust and supply fans, additional design elements.
Paint chambers have wide doors, through which the car enters inside. There is enough space in the room for the specialist to move freely around the car. A paint spraying unit is also included in the system.
The paint booth operates in such modes:
- Painting the car body.
- Blowing out the chamber to purify the air.
- Drying the surface of the machine.
- Cooling mode.
Features of painting chambers for cars
In this special box, the air undergoes a high degree of purification from dust. It is fed inside through the ventilation system and undergoes filtration. The air in the room is heated to the optimal temperature for painting and circulates steadily. A special sensor is installed which switches off the heating when the set temperature is reached.
There are filters on the floor of the paint booth. They remove the fine mist that is formed when spraying paint. Dampers are installed on the air ducts. They do not allow dust to penetrate inside when the exhaust hood is running. Thanks to this ventilation and vapor extraction system, the drying of the machine surface is safe. An explosive situation is excluded.
Another feature of the ventilation system of paint booths is the reuse of heated air. It undergoes cleaning and is again directed to the box. This gives such positive results:
- Electricity is saved.
- The paint on the vehicle dries faster.
- The required room temperature remains stable.
The paint booths are illuminated with safety glass fixtures. The light rays are directed at the car from all sides. Thanks to this, the quality of the paint application is clearly visible.
Types of paint booths for cars
Boxes for painting cars differ in device. They are either pass-through or closed. If a single motor is used, the fan blows air from top to bottom. Overpressure is formed, and the paint mist descends downward. It is then discharged to the outside through a hole in the floor. If two motors are installed, the air is blown into the room from the outside and exhausted from the inside. This allows sufficient circulation in the working area.
The design and location of the ventilation system varies. It can be installed in trenches in the floor, under the floor surface between the base and the grille. The most efficient system is supply and exhaust ventilation.
It is important that control valves are built into the air ducts, and filters are located on the floor and on the ceiling. This avoids stagnant air in certain areas of the auto paint booth. Pressure regulating valves prevent the system filters from clogging during purging or drying modes.
