Hemorrhoids: what they are, symptoms, causes and prevention

31.12.2022

At the outlet of the rectum in the anal canal there are hemorrhoidal nodes. They consist of cavernous tissue with small vessels filled with arterial blood constantly. When defecating with dense masses or from pushing during childbirth, the cavernous veins are damaged and bleeding occurs.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids

The first signs of hemorrhoids may be discomfort in the rectum, tickling and pain, especially after defecation. Periodically, blood appears, there is swelling, and the pain gets worse. If it has already begun, a trip to the doctor and a hemorrhoid remedy may help. In especially neglected cases, it can go as far as surgery.

Later, internal hemorrhoidal nodes enlarge and fall out when you push, sneeze, or lift weights. Often, they will push back on their own. The condition may worsen to such an extent that the nodes have to be manually redirected, cracks appear, and the external hemorrhoidal nodes in the anus area are enlarged.

Why hemorrhoids arise

Blood circulation in the cavernous tissues in the anal canal is disturbed. The outflow of blood from the hemorrhoidal nodes through the cavernous veins decreases, and the inflow of arterial blood increases. There are several direct causes of this condition:

  • Decreased function of the musculo-ligamentous apparatus that holds the hemorrhoidal nodes in place. Such a disorder occurs with a lack of movement from long sitting at the wheel or computer desk.
  • Chronic constipation, lifting weights cause overstretching of the hemorrhoidal nodes area, an increase in blood flow and a delay in outflow.
  • Pregnancy and childbirth. In the late term, the weight of the fetus can squeeze veins and arteries, which disrupts blood flow in the pelvis and anal canal area. Increased strain during labor can lead to excess and stagnation of blood in the hemorrhoidal nodes, and to rupture of the veins in this area.

Hemorrhoids can occur due to dysfunctions of other organs, due to which blood stagnation is formed in the system of inferior vena cava and portal veins. This can be caused by liver disease, spasms in the gallbladder, ducts, sphincter of Oddi.

In the portal vein, which directs blood from unpaired peripheral organs to the liver, the pressure increases. This affects the movement of blood throughout the main line. The hemorrhoidal veins take on excess pressure. Stagnant blood accumulates in the hemorrhoidal nodes.

Prevention of hemorrhoids

To minimize the likelihood of hemorrhoids, a comprehensive approach is required:

  • Consume a sufficient amount of plain water - 30-40 ml for each kg of weight. You can start the morning with a glass or two of warm water to flush the bowels.
  • Try to consume more unrefined products, bread with bran, wholemeal pasta, porridges with fiber, sauerkraut vegetables, greens, dairy products.
  • To exclude the causes of hemorrhoids, associated with pressure disturbances in the portal vein, it is necessary to restore the correct functioning of the liver, to establish the outflow of bile and eliminate spasms in the area of the right subcutter, diaphragm and Oddi sphincter.
  • Prevention of hemorrhoids is regular physical activity. If the work is sedentary, you can take short breaks during the day, several times a week to do exercises that improve blood circulation in the pelvis.
  • If you need to carry a heavy load, it is better to divide it, if possible.

All the causes of the appearance of hemorrhoids are not fully known. It can be not only physical factors, but also certain stresses and worries. It is important to remember: the earlier you start treating hemorrhoids, the more likely you are to prevent its severe stage. You should not be embarrassed to go to the doctor with this problem.
